Building Your Own Early Years Curriculum with Leslie Patterson (Early Education)

Following the introductory session offered as part of the district early years network meetings in the spring term, we are delighted to offer this one-day, in-person course to explore building an early years curriculum in more detail. The course will be facilitated by Leslie Patterson, an Early Education Associate with extensive experience in the early years.

This full-day course will be a blend of training and workshop activities which will support participants to build and improve their setting’s curriculum.

Venue: Brearley Nursery School (B19 3XJ)

Times: 09:15 - 15:15 with breaks included

NOTE: Drinks will be provided but please bring your own lunch

Training will include:

  • Reflection on curriculum intent in terms of aspirations for children and families

  • Curriculum and the revised EYFS, using non-statutory guidance to support curriculum development

  • Whose voices should be reflected in a curriculum?

  • Curriculum, Child development, and Pedagogy

  • The learner’s perspective

  • What impacts on our delivery of the curriculum?

  • What is involved when we make decisions about implementing the curriculum?

  • Assessment and curriculum

  • Factors which influence whether impact has led to intended outcomes

  • Where can we see evidence of impact?

Workshop activities will work on:

  • The local context in which we deliver our curriculum

  • Considering ways of communicating what our curriculum entails

  • Identifying the main principles underpinning our curriculum

  • Unpicking the complexities of our curriculum

  • Building on what we already offer

  • How do we ensure the curriculum match the needs of our pupils?

  • A flexible and responsive curriculum

Places are limited to a maximum of 2 people from each setting.

Maximum number of places: 25

If we have more people requesting places, we will create a waiting list with the possibility of offering an additional group if needed.
