The Early Years Developing Local Provision (DLP) project is pleased to offer Birmingham practitioners working within Early Years settings, Maintained Nursery Schools or Childminders the opportunity to attend this funded* training and gain an NCFE CACHE Level 2 accredited award.

*The cost of the course and accreditation will be funded by the EY DLP project. You will need to fund any cover needed in order to attend the course.

About the course

Aiming to inspire practitioners from across the Early Years sector, this training offers a balance of theoretical and practical support to enable practitioners to carry out their role in supporting young children with additional needs.

The training will enable practitioners to:

  • Understand statutory guidance in relation to the care and education of children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

  • Understand how children learn and develop in the Early Years

  • Understand the impact of transition

  • Understand best practice for meeting the individual needs of young children

  • Be able to plan for individual babies and young children

  • Be able to work in partnership

The course takes 3 days to complete; all sessions are a full day (09:30 - 15:30) with breaks and study time allocated during each session.

Sessions will be delivered once a week, over the course of 3 weeks, with an additional week after the final session for all coursework to be completed.

Attendance is mandatory for all 3 sessions in order to complete this course.

Learners must be able to focus on the sessions for the full day, whether at work or joining from home.

For online courses, learners will need to have cameras and microphones in order to fully participate in the session.

Learner requirements

Applicants must:

  • Have a minimum level 2 qualification, already

  • Be working directly with children to support the reflective element of the sessions

  • Have the support of their manager to attend this course

We want to reach as many settings across the city as possible and will allocate one place per setting initially. 

Additional people can apply and any unfilled spaces will be allocated based on the size of the setting and the district data profile.
