The Birmingham Early Years Networks (BEYN) termly District Network Meeting (DNM) aims to provide local practitioners with the opportunity to share information and access professional development.
This is the Autumn Term Networking Meeting for Northfield District.
Transition and Communication, Language & Literacy
How can we build our shared understanding and consistency in our assessments of children’s communication, language and literacy development?
What does this look like in your school/setting?
Please bring along an observation of a child aged 36 months for communication, language or literacy to help us explore what this looks like for children across our district.
We also want to continue our conversations about effective transition; come along and share your reflections on transition to help inform our next steps as a district.

For 2024/25, following your feedback and suggestions, the BEYN are offering networking and opportunities to share practice around key identified themes.
Each term, there will be:
ONE in-person networking meeting in each district (limited places)
ONE online cross-city network meeting - feat. guest speaker(s) (limited places)
ONE online cross-city information briefing (unlimited places)
ONE online childminder-specific networking meeting (unlimited places)
What is a Steering Group?
Every district is run by a Steering Group that meets at least three times a year. The Steering Group is made up of representatives from across the Early Years community and childcare provision in the district who work together to support contact, communication, collaboration, and engagement across the sector.
Northfield district covers the wards of Allens Cross, Bournville and Cotteridge, Frankley Great Park, parts of Kings Norton North, Kings Norton South, Longbridge and West Heath, Northfield, Rubery and Rednal, and parts of Weoley and Selly Oak.
Steering Group representatives use the District Data Profiles, alongside any other local information, to develop an action plan that is focused on the children in the district.
