Wraparound Childcare - Workforce Update

Do Something BIG, Work with Small Children

From 1 August 2024, the Department for Education (DfE) is re-launching its early years and childcare recruitment campaign: Do Something BIG, Work with Small Children (England only).

As part of this, a new ‘Education and Childcare Jobs’ category will replace the existing ‘Education Jobs’ category on the government’s Find a Job website, where employers in wraparound childcare and early years will be able to advertise any available positions on the site.

To make the most of this opportunity, please post any relevant vacancies to the ‘Education and Childcare Jobs’ advert category and, if appropriate for the role, include ‘Wraparound Childcare’ in the job title.

New Wraparound Workforce Toolkit

To help you with workforce recruitment and retention, we want to make you aware of a new Wraparound Workforce Toolkit.

This document is a useful guide to recruiting and retaining your workforce for Local Authorities, schools, PVIs and childminders.

The toolkit is separated into five sections:

  • Identifying and attracting people to wraparound childcare

  • Advertising wraparound childcare roles

  • Interviewing wraparound childcare candidates

  • Onboarding wraparound childcare staff

  • Retaining and supporting wraparound childcare staff

Request for Support - Case Studies

To further support the workforce recruitment drive, DfE are looking for wraparound providers or schools willing to share their experiences as an employer or employee in wraparound childcare and any job seekers.

They are especially interested in individuals aged over 50 who would like to share their experiences.

Case studies will be shared on the Do Something BIG website, Job Help website and/or on the DfE’s social media channels.

For those who would like to get in touch, please contact Storm Ryan at storm.ryan@education.gov.uk
